Chapter Two

“What was that about?” Blazefire demanded, fur bristling, as she stood in front of her leader. The black-white tom was sitting at the base of the Pine, shoulders haunched in defeat. “We had it covered! We could have taught them not to steal from us anymore, but you had to call it down. Why!” She was yelling now, spitting with fury. Whisperstar said nothing and continued to stare at the ground. “You are a sorry excuse for a leader! You let this clan down! I am no longer your deputy. Let another foolish cat take my place! I’m done!” Blazefire spat and stalked to the warriors den. The whole Clan was silent. Whisperstar finally lifted his head and was met with a chorus of protests. Every cat in the clan demanded to know what had happened. “I lost two lives!” Whisperstar yowled and LightningClan fell silent again. “Ha! Pathetic and weak!” Blazefire called out again and Poisonmoon stared at this leader. Only one life left. Evrybody knows that Whisperstar is at the end of his life. He thought. “Who will be the deputy, since Blazefire decided to step down?” Poisonmoon called out. Whisperstar jumped up onto the Pine and announced: “By the power of StarClan, I shall name the new LightningClan deputy. May the old one hear and approve my choice.” “Still here!” Whisperstar ignored Blazefire and took a deep breath. “Poisonmoon will be the new deputy of LightningClan.” Poisonmoon sat up, eyes shining and a grin placed upon his face. He stood up, his yellow-orange pelt turning red in the sun. “I am honored to become your deputy. I have never thought I would reach this position and I will serve my Clan until the day I die.” Poisonmoon meowed and yowls of aproval sounded from around him. “Poisonmoon! Poisonmoon!” The tom lifted his head and just caught sight of Blazefire. She was watching him, pride shinning in her eyes. When the voices died out, Poisonmoon sent out hunting patrols and border patrols and padded to the warriors den to look for Blazefire. She was laying in her nest, eyes closed but ears twitching. “Hey. I hope me becoming deputy doesn’t ruin my chance with you.” Poisonmoon said and Blazefire lifted her head, surprised. “On the contrary, you will now have all the she-cats of the Clan come running after you. For example, Midnightmoon.” She pointed to the black she-cat, who was just passing the den. She blushed at Poisonmoon and almost ran into Beechtail. Poisonmoon chuckled. “Nah, I have my mind set on someone else.” Blazefire cocked her head to one side. “And who would that lucky cat be?” She asked in a teasing purr. Poisonmoon stepped closer and leaned forwards, so that their noses touched. Blazefire smiled and licked his cheek. “Looks like we’re on the same page.”

“Thistlepatch!” Poisonmoon yowled and burst into the medicine cat den. The gray tom turned around, some leaves in his mouth. His apprentice, Spiritpaw, padded forwards and asked: “What’s wrong?” “It’s Blazefire!” Poisonmoon gasped and immediately, Thistlepatch began to prepare som herbs. “Go with Poisonmoon and check on her.” Thistlepatch ordered and Spiritpaw nodded, leading Poisonmoon back to the nursery. “Stay here.” Spiritpaw meowed and walked into the den. A while later, Thistlepatch whisked past Poisonmoon and went into the den too. Poisonmoon paced outside the nursery, agitated. What if Blazefire dies? What if the kits die? What if..What if… Poisonmoon’s thought were only centered around his mate. Some time passed and Thistlepatch’s head popped out of the nursery. “You have one beautiful daughter.” He meowed and Poisonmoon pushed past him, hurrying to get to his mate and kit. Blazefire was licking a small white bundle. Poisonmoon crouched down in front of her and rubbed his cheek against her. She licked his in return and gently pushed the little bundle to him. The kit yawned and opened her eyes. Green eyes like him. She also had red stripes all over her body. “What should we name her?” He whispered and nudged the kit back to her mother. She leat out a tiny squeal that turned to suckling when she found her mother. “I have been thinking,  maybe Snowkit?” Blazefire muttered and closed her eyes and curled up over the kit. “Yes. Snowkit. That’s a beautiful name.” He licked the top of her head, and padded out of the nursery.
